Tom Gates Excellent Excuses ( and other good stuff )

This book is about Tom Gates who tries to make excellent excuses to stop him from going to the dentist from eating all the sweets he's been hiding. He also tries to get to the top of the class gold star award chart, but that doesn't go well. One day he finds out that Marcus Meldrew has the most gold stars and thinks that he has been cheating. The next day when Tom had to stay in the library to finish his review homework, he finds out that someone in the class room has been adding their own gold stars to the sticker chart. He finds out that it was Marcus Meldrew who's been sneaking in and adding his OWN GOLD STARS!! Will Tom be able to catch the sneaky Marcus Meldrew?

Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic ( at some things )

Tom loves drawing cartoon pictures and doesn't really pay attention to his school work. He always forgets to bring his homework and always be late for school having a really bad excuse. Toms teachers name is Mr Fullerman. He always gets mad at Tom for not doing his work and drawing monsters in his book. He also copy's Amy Porters work because he is to lazy to do it himself. Mr Fullerman asked everybody in class 5F to look at there activity book to see what is going on. Tom forgotten all about the SCHOOL ACTIVITY TRIP!!! He then asked Mr Fullerman if he could get another form and he said, "Yes!" Toms Mum asked him if he could go to the supermarket with her and Tom of coursed said yes because he always likes to sneak a few treats inside the trolly when his Mum is not looking. Toms cousins are coming to there house very soon but Tom's Mum is still not quite sure when there coming but hopefully she could find out soon. Tom's Mum bought a massive bag of bananas for the and the cousins to eat and Toms Mum gave Tom his very own shopping list to find what they need quicker and hopefully sneak in a couple more treats. On the shopping list that Tom had, there was a massive roll of toilet paper that he had to find. He accidentally plopped it in Amy Porters trolley and didn't noticed until he collided into Amy and they switched there trolleys around and the toilet papers squashed the buns and the tomato in Amy Porters trolley and in Toms trolley, his Mum spotted all the unnecessary items like wafers and all kinds of junk food in them. Amy then reminded him about the school activity form to sign and when they got home, the first thing Tom did was find the form under all his books and gave it to his Mum to sign.  Derek came over to Toms house for a band practise but they ended up just making and designing there own Dude 3 t-shirt. The day had came, everybody was on the bus apart from Tom ( which he was obviously late ) and they set of on there journey. They got to make there own rafts and race in them, having midnight feats and climbing the high wall which Marcus ( the school bully ) didn't do because he pretended to have a tummy ache. Tom then got a letter from Delia ( Toms Sister ) about he didn't post the t-shirt design. Tom felt really gutted that he had no chance of winning. When he got home, he went to his new bedroom to see how it looks like and he even got his own chalkboard and his Mum finally knows when the cousins are coming over. Toms family and the 2 cousins ( except for Delia because she's at work ) went to the new restaurant and Toms 2 cousins went crazy with there food and then a guy tripped them both up and they tipped all there food on the ground and the cleaner had to clean it all up when suddenly, Tom realised that she was Delia. When they got home, Tom got a letter from Dude 3 that he had won the competition and he realised that Delia had sent it for him. Tom was being really nice to her but she said that this will not last long at all!

Midnight for Charlie Bone

When Charlie, Benjamin and Runner came home, Maisie cooked them a meal to eat and Charlie told Benjamin all about him going to Bloor's soon so Benjamin felt bad so he gave his sausage to Runner Bean and left. Just as they left, he saw Uncle Paton and asked him to come to the library to see Miss Inglendlew to figure what was inside the case. The store was closed but they could still see a shimmering light in there. Charlie asked her for the key so she went and search for it but she couldn't find the key. She told Charlie to try all the unnamed keys and bring them back to her if it doesn't work. When they left the library Uncle Paton said, what a charming woman” and his huge, soundless humming caused the nearest lamp to burn so fiercely.

Midnight for Charlie Bone

Charlie asked Benjamin if he could help Charlie carry the case to his house. When they got there, Charlie slid the case underneath the bed and went back home before Maisie and Grandma Bone growls at him. When Charlie got back home, Maisie and Grandma Bone was yelling at Charlie for killing all the mice but Charlie explained it all because Mr Ominous and his cats killed all the mice but Grandma Bone was still angry but Maisie forgives Charlie. It was Benjamin's birthday today, so Charlie rushed out to Benjamin's house for his birthday party. Runner Bean was barking outside at Charlie but Charlie could just slide through the hole. Benjamin, Runner Bean and Charlie ran upstairs and was very confused at what was inside the case but Charlie, Benjamin and Runner Bean just carried on with Benjamin's party. Benjamin got a robot dog from Charlie which Runner Bean thought that Benjamin didn't like him anymore but Benjamin said that he was the best dog ever. Benjamin, Charlie and Runner Bean went upstairs to check what sound it was from the case. Charlie tried opening it but it was locked so Charlie told Benjamin to put the case in the cupboard so he won't hear it. Charlie, Benjamin and Runner Bean was waiting for Benjamin's parents but they didn't come so Charlie invited Benjamin and Runner Bean to his house.

Midnight for Charlie Bone

The 3 Aunties gave Charlie a picture and they asked, " can you hear anything?", but Charlie just said "no". Then they said to tell the truth and finally Charlie changed his mind and said " I can hear laughing in the picture. Then the 3 Aunties said, " it's a family region, everybody can hear weird noises from this family." Charlie Bone was very confused, he wanted to know heaps more but didn't know how. Just before bed time, Charlie asked his Mum if she could come inside his room and have a little conversation and Charlie's Mum said,"Yes."

Midnight for Charlie Bone

Charlie decided to just leave and just forget about it but when he was walking with Benjamin and Runner Bean ( Benjamin's dog ), he was holding the newspaper with a picture of a boy on the cover. Charlie looked at it for a moment and he started hearing cheering sounds from the picture. He then told Benjamin that he kept on hearing weird nosies from pictures and then suddenly, his Uncle came walking in front of Charlie and said that Charlie had an important meeting to attend, but Benjamin and Runner Bean couldn't come. When Charlie and his Uncle came back home, his Mum told hime that the 3 Aunties are going to come and test you. Then there was a knock, and Charlie knew that it was the 3 Aunties. They sat down at the dining table and told Charlie to follow them to a room to test Charlie, but Charlie wanted his Mum to come in, but she couldn't.

Midnight for Charlie Bone

For the Pukeko's Reading group, we are reading a new book called Midnight for Charlie Bone. It's about a boy named Charlie Bone that lived at number 9 Filbert Street. Charlie's best friend was Benjamin and his birthday was coming up very soon, so Charlie decided to make a birthday card for Benjamin. So Charlie told his mum to print a photo of Runner Bean ( Benjamin's dog ) to stick on the front cover of the birthday card, but when Charlie saw the photo, it was a man holding a baby crying and he looked at the photo and it started talking and Charlie could hear the baby crying and some laughing noises. His mum asked if he was all right and Charlie said "yes".

See ya Simon

For the Pukeko's Reading group, we are doing the Literacy circles and the book is called See ya Simon. It's about a boy named Simon and Nathan was Simon's best friend, they aways plays together. One day, Simon was at a soccer game today and he scored a amazing goal. Mr Johnston (he's teacher) was very proud of Simon because he was in a wheelchair that uses battery. After the game, Simons wheelchairs better was about to die, so Mr Johnston had to push him back home, but his wheelchair is very heavy.

Pig City

Laura woke up very early each morning to go to school before everyone else. When she walked in, she saw a big word saying 'DICTIONARY' on the chalkboard and she knew straight away that they had to copy dictionary pages. Laura sneakily wrote Pigs Rule underneath 'DICTIONARY'. When the bell ran, everybody in her class lined up ready to get in the class. When Laura's class walked in, they all started to laugh and giggle but Mr Doyle (Laura's teacher) was staring mischievously at his class and then he drew a triangle on the chalkboard and next to it, was a number 1. It meant that, when he figures out who wrote it, then there name will be written in the triangle and then they need to copy the amount of dictionary pages that the number was written next to the triangle.

Pig City

Laura and her three best friends were going to a garage sale on Saturday. Laura bought a Pig City hat but her friends told her not to buy it because their were scared that there was lice inside it, but she bought it anyway. Laura made a Pig City club but her school isn't allowed clubs so she kept it a secret.

Diary of a Whimpy Kid Rodrick Rules

Greg has a older brother named Rodrick. Rodrick is like the 'boss' of Greg because Rodrick has to drive him home in Rodrick's van than has a lot of instruments in it. Roderick and Greg aren't great brothers because they always fight and argue with each other. Rodrick wanted to be a drum player so he asked his friends if they wanted to join his band. There was a competition at a school and Rodrick and his band wanted to join so they always practised and the day finally came. Rodrick asked Greg if he could help record him playing but Greg said, "No" so Rodrick asked his Mum and of course his Mum said, "Yes". Rodick's band didn't come 1st so Rodrick was really gutted but he kept on trying.

Big Nate Makes the Grade

Nate and his friend Francis are shopping for back to school clothes. Nate wants to buy another pair of  his lucky socks because his old pair of lucky socks were all smelly and dirty because Nate always says," If you don't wash your socks, then it will become lucky." Nate always gets in trouble in all different ways like talking in class, not doing homework and much much more. There is this evil teacher called Mrs Godfrey and she loves this child named Gina. Gina is one of Nate's biggest enemy and another one is of course Mrs Godfrey. Gina always does extra homework for Mrs Godfrey and Gina also is very smart because she always gets A or A+ in her exams.

The 52 Storey Treehouse

Andy and Terry are best friends. They always do things together and help solve problems together too. Andy and Terry make funny books just like this book, Andy writes the book, Terry draws the pictures and Mr Big Nose prints here books. They live in a 39 storey treehouse but now they built another 13 storeys which meant that the treehouse is now 52. They added a watermelon smashing room, a chain saw juggling level, a make your own pizza parlour, a rocket carrot launcher, a giant hair dryer that is so strong it practically blasts the hair right off your head, a rocking horse racetrack, a haunted house, a wave machine, a life size snakes and ladders games ( with real ladders and real snakes, ) a 24 hours a day 7 days a week non stop Punch and Judy puppet show, a remembering booth to help us remember important stuff we might have forgotten, a ninja snail training academy ( which was Terry's idea ), a high tech detective agency and a disguise -o-matic 5000. It was Andy's birthday in a couple of weeks so he tried asking Terry if he knows what is going on, but Terry didn't know so Andy led Terry to the remembering booth but Terry still didn't know. Terry was wondering where Mr Big Nose is, because when there up to page 51 of there book, Mr Big Nose would call them on the big TV screen and say when it's due back, but he still hasn't called them and there already up to page 54. Mr Big Nose's office was a absolute mess and Mr Big Nose wasn't there. Andy and Terry flew to his office and they could see books and trophies lying on the floor but no sign of Mr Big Nose. Terry saw a huge building up a hill and they decided to go to it. There was signs saying " Vegetables only " " Keep out if your not a vegetables " " Do NOT enter if your a human " but Terry and Andy just kept going and a caterpillar sat on Terry's head and he ate all the things that were blocking them. Then they arrived to the castle and they saw tons of vegetables and they both dressed up as a vegetable so they won't be found but a king saw them and they got sent to a little jail that was in the castle. They saw Mr Big Nose in there and the caterpillar was turning into a butterfly. The vegetables hung the 3 people and plopped them into a pot with boiling water but a knight saved there lives and killed all the vegetables. Then they went to Jil's house and they had Andy's birthday party and then Terry said that he had never had a Birthday before so then Andy shared his birthday with Terry. The butterfly flew back to Jil's house and on the butterflies wings it said " Happy BD Andy and Terry ", but then the TV went on and Mr Big Nose said that the book was due today at 5:00pm so Terry was in a panic but Jil said to open this present and inside was this book. Terry's ninja snails took the book to Mr Big Nose and he published it and it became this book ' The 52 Storey Treehouse ' ! ( The next book would be ' The 65 Storey Treehouse ' ).

Big Nate From the Top

Nate is a very naughty boy. He is eleven years old boy and he is a year 6. He always gets in trouble and goes to detention. He has a very angry teacher called Mrs Godfrey and 2 best friends called Francis and Terry. They always hangs out together and Nate has a crush on Jenny but she doesn't like Nate. One day, Nate was having a school photo day so he prepared himself with a cool look but on that day the photographer said that he had to sit down so he did. The photographer kept talking and not taking the photo so Nate was shouting "JUST TAKE THE PHOTO!!!!!!!!!!!" and right when he said it 'KLICK' they took the picture. At lunch time, Franklin said that he lost his $20's for his lunch meal, Nate then dressed up as a detective and he asked people if they stole the $20's but Franklin actually left it underneath some paper. Nate always had turkey for lunch starting from thanksgiving day, so Nate asked his dad that he didn't want turkey for his rest of his life. Not even turkey drumsticks, turkey salad or turkey sandwiches.

Ratburger

 She ran up the stairs and she saw Burt in her room but Burt had drew a fake moustache on his face so people couldn't realise who he was and Burt said that he could small aa rat on her but Zoe always says she doesn't but soon Armatige crawled out and Burt chased Armatige around the room and he finally caught him. That night Burt and Zoe's Stepmother were talking together like they were dating because as Burt was going to leave, they kissed each other  because there was a moustache printed on her. Then Zoe followed Burt's van to see where he puts Armatige and Burt saw her and he was making rats into ratburgers so Zoe chased Burt and Zoe dropped Burt's sunglasses and he had no eyes but he had a vey good sense of smell. Zoe ran to his Dad's work and Zoe said that you need to come, so her dad did follow them and Zoe's Stepmother hopped out of Burt's car and she said "your little rat is going to be a yummy burger." But then Zoe and her Dad were chasing them up the stairs which led the to the machine but then her dad caught Armatige and Chloe's Dad pushed Burt and her Stepmother into the machine and then they were turned into a burger. Chloe and her Dad released all the rats and they had a wonderful life. Zoe lived in a 37 floor building that was leaning down with herself, her Dad, Gingernut ( Zoe's pet hamster ) and her Stepmother. Unfortunately her Mum had gone so it was only them. One day Gingernut was dead, lying on his back and not moving a tiny inch. Zoe was so sad so she called her Stepmother to come and look at Gingernut ( by the way, her Stepmother is called Sheila. ) Her Stepmother slowly stomped her way up the stairs and she blocked the stairway light. She was holding a packet of prawn cocktail crisps and munching on them. Zoe said " Gingernut is dead what should we do?" Her stepmother just said to throw in away in the rubbish bin he just stinks. It was time for Zoe to go to school so she stopped by at Raj's shop to get some food. Zoe was very poor because her Stepmother wasted all their money to buy prawn cocktail crisps so she had no money, but Raj said that Zoe could nibble the sides of the chocolate bar and he could put it back on for sale. When Zoe came back home, she saw a baby rat sitting in the corner of the room and she slowly pick up the rat with her hands. Then her Stepmother came stomping into her room and Zoe quickly hid under her blanket covering her pet rat so her Stepmother couldn't see it because she hated rats. The next day came as she had to go to school, she wanted to take her pet rat with her so her Stepmother couldn't kill him. Zoe plopped her pet rat into her breast pocket so he will be safe. As she walk to school, Zoe stopped at Raj's shop and showed him her pet rat. Raj went screaming and running away as Zoe chased him so she could tell her what actually happened. It was time for school so she went into her class and waited for Miss Midge ( the small teacher ) to come. As it was break time, Zoe went to the girls bathroom and she took her pet rat out of her pocket, Zoe was thinking of a name for it and she called it Armitage. Soon Tina ( the local bully ) came in and started talking about Zoe and she was so angry she went out and showed Tina her pet rat Armitage and Tina was so frightened she left the room. Break time was finally over and Zoe went back to her classroom and the head master Mr Grave came and said " there is some droppings on the girls floor and it is not human droppings, it is animal droppings. Then suddenly, Armartige crawled out of Zoe's pocket and climbed up onto her head and the teacher said that Zoe is fired out of this school. Zoe slowly walked home and she saw Burt's burger van and and she was very confused.

Mr Stink 

Mr Stink was homeless so Chloe let's hem stay at her house. Chloe's Mum didn't like him so she was very mad but when the reporters came she thought that Mr Stink was very nice but Chloe's Sister kept on saying that Mr Stink was very stinky but her Mum was just ignoring her. The Prime Minister said that Chloe's Mum and Mr Stink could be the second Prime Minister. That night Mr Stink and Chloe's family went to a TV interview, Chloe and her Sister and Dad were sitting in a little room that had lots of TV's in it, Mr Stink was telling funny jokes to the audience and the audience laughed and when it was time Chloe's Mum time to talk she was like Mr Stink is so lovely, of course I was the one who invited him in to stay, but then Mr Stink said you were not the one who invited me in, it was your daughter Chloe. Then one of the reporter said that he wanted to see Chloe, but Chloe was very shy but her Dad said to stand up for herself so Chloe did it and everyone was screaming when she came out. When they got home Mum was very angry at Chloe and Mr Stink so she was like shouting at Chloe. In the afternoon Chloe was heading to Mr Stink and when she was walking, she saw her Dad and she said "aren't you supposed to go to work," but Dad said that he is no longer doing his job but he didn't want Mum to know so he told Chloe to keep it a secret. A couple days later, the Prime Minister wanted to see Mr Stink, so Mr Stink and Chloe went into a helicopter to go to his house. When they got there, the Prime Minister was being very rude to Mr Stink so he decided to not be the Prime Minster after all. On Christmas Eve, there whole family including Mr Stink and his dog Duchess gathered around the Christmas tree and Chloe asked Mr Stink if he could stay but he said "no."Everybody was very sad as Mr Stink left the house and Chloe went to her bed and she saw Mr Stink so she rushed outside and Mr Stink saw her too so he stopped. Mr Stink said "if you look at that star then I would look at it too. So Chloe said "bye" to Mr Stink the last time and he said it back and Mr Stink walked away.
